43 Typical Reasons Men Choose to Remain Single

Feeling particularly solo lately? You’re not alone. A study from the University of Nicosia in Cyprus has highlighted why many men remain single. The research analyzed 13,429 responses from a popular Reddit thread to gather insights. While it may not be the most scientific approach, the comments are something many can relate to.

Men from all over contributed to a Reddit thread after one user asked, “Guys, why are you single?” The answers varied from introspective (“I do get lonely, but I’ve found that’s a lot less painful than either rejection or just being with a very wrong person”) to straightforward (“I don’t put myself out there”). Since many men don’t typically discuss these topics openly, the responses were candid and honest.

The study identified 43 reasons men cited for being single. “A significant strength of this research is the large number of men who voluntarily shared their reasons outside an official study context,” the paper notes.

Below are the 9 most common reasons and some advice on overcoming each one.
